EHS Manager

NCP Coatings is hiring an EHS Manager in Niles, MI and/or Mishawaka, IN.

Responsible for managing a comprehensive Environmental, Health, and Safety program for NCP Coatings, LLC at our facilities in Niles, MI and Mishawaka, IN. Provide leadership, direction and training that will ensure a safe and healthy workplace for our associates while ensuring compliance with applicable environmental, health, and safety laws and regulations to minimize current and future liabilities/risk. You will have close interaction with all levels of the manufacturing, technical and engineering organizations to ensure a consistent and unified EHS message.

Regulatory reporting and agency-facing compliance activities are considered a secondary, value-added component of the role. The EHS Manager partners closely with Operations, Maintenance, R&D, Quality, and Leadership to reduce risk, prevent injuries, support responsible environmental practices, and reinforce a strong safety culture as the business continues to grow.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with Federal, State, Local and NCP requirements and policies.
  • Drive injury prevention, hazard elimination, and sustainability in the areas of waste reduction, energy
    conservation and water consumption.
  • Provide leadership and direction for EHS training, which includes oversight and completion of the industrial hygiene program, PPE programs, and contractor safety.
  • Develop and deliver EHS training programs, including onboarding, refresher, and job-specific safety training.
  • Partner with Operations to implement safe work practices, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and change management initiatives.
  • Conduct incident and injury investigations, audits, incident reporting management, case strategic direction, and oversight for the facility, to include workers’ compensation management.
  • Evaluate the EHS impacts of capital projects and assure EHS risk assessments are completed.
  • Provide oversight, audit readiness and mentorship for compliance audits and corrective action management.
  • Lead site security, fire prevention, and emergency response.
  • Conceive, develop, and lead solutions to sophisticated situations, using legally or expertly accepted techniques, procedures, or methods.
  • Ensure compliance with Title V, Tier II, and Form R reporting requirements
  • Oversee the Waste Management Program (Hazardous, Non-Hazardous, Universal). Ensure compliance with requirements related to waste profiles, manifests, LDR’s, and bi-annual hazardous waste reporting.
  • Maintain emergency response and contingency plans.
  • Comply with ISO9001 requirements, maintaining certification.
  • Help develop leading indicators that drive continuous improvement in sustainability metrics (energy, water, waste), spill incidents, injuries and the EHS Management System.
  • Serve as a visible, hands-on plant-floor safety leader.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives tied to operational excellence and risk reduction.

Environmental Management (Core Supporting Responsibility)

Manage and maintain site environmental programs aligned with federal, state, and local requirements.

Oversee the waste management program (hazardous, non-hazardous, and universal waste), including waste profiles, manifests, and proper disposal practices.

Support initiatives related to spill prevention, waste reduction, and responsible resource use.

Maintain environmental permits, records, and contingency plans.

Partner with Operations and Engineering to evaluate environmental impacts of process changes and capital projects.

Regulatory & Compliance (Secondary / Value-Add)

Support compliance with applicable OSHA, EPA, DOT, and state regulations.

Manage required regulatory reporting as applicable, including:
o Tier II
o Form R (TRI)
o Title V (as required)

  • Maintain audit readiness and support agency inspections when needed.
  • Track and manage corrective actions resulting from audits or inspections.
    Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or related Science field.
  • 3-8 years’ experience in the EHS field. Manufacturing or chemical setting preferred.
    Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
  • Possess Strong knowledge of safety and environmental regulations and consensus standards (OSHA, EPA, DOT,
    NIOSH, ANSI, NFPA, Workers’ Compensation), inspection procedures, audits, hazard reviews, incident
    prevention, incident investigation techniques, and safety and environmental education and training.
  • Own strong problem-solving skills and be able to manage programs.
  • Exhibit strong communication, consulting, influencing, mentor, and leadership skills; effective advisor to
    management and employees across a variety of issues.
  • Have ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions.
  • Have ability to coordinate multiple projects and meet necessary deadlines.
  • Exhibit proficiency in the use of computers with knowledge of MS office products including Outlook, Word,
    PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Show expertise in change management and building a safety culture through influence and engagement.
  • Must be a persistent self-starter who can work effectively and lead others with minimum oversight.
  • Exercise ability to work effectively with all levels the organization and with individuals outside of the company.
  • Possess a basic understanding of key business metrics, key drivers, business vision, and manufacturing processes/challenges as applicable.
